Because the slow fat metabolism

One of the things that is often blamed as the cause of obesity is the body's metabolism is slower. Is this true?

According to Donald Hensrud, MD, specialist in medical prevention mayoclinic, slow metabolism can actually lead to obesity, but very rarely. "The main cause of obesity is poor diet and lack of exercise," he said.

Metabolism, bright Hensrud is a body process of converting what we eat and drink for energy. "Even when we sleep, our body needs energy to perform their functions, like breathing, blood circulation or repair of cells," he said. The number of calories the body needs to perform its basic functions is called the basal metabolic rate (BMR).

There are several factors that affect the basal metabolic rate, namely:
- The size and body composition
When your body is bigger or has more muscle mass, then your body will burn more calories even while sleeping. Therefore, obese people actually have a faster metabolism, not slow.

- Sex
If you are male, lower body fat and more muscle than women of similar age, so that the calories in the body are also more likely to be burned.

- Age
With increasing age, muscle mass decreases, so the velocity of the body in burning calories decreases.
In addition to metabolism, other factors that cause weight gain is excessive calorie consumption, lack of exercise, genetics, certain medications and have an unhealthy lifestyle, such as breakfast rare and sleep deprivation .
